Citrus Snacking for the Win!
Do you like oranges? They are so refreshing and packed with vitamin C which gives a great immune boost. At our house, we always try to eat the whole fruit rather than store-bought fruit juice since the fiber is missing from that and it’s usually pasteurized which kills the living enzymes in the oranges.
Oranges are a great snack as is but sometimes it’s fun to spice it up a bit!
When I was younger, and before my lifestyle changed, I used to make these with refined white sugar. Bleh. If I tried that today, not only would I feel extremely sick due to the insulin spike and the GMO’s but I would find it overly sweet. As my diet has changed and I’ve eliminated all refined sugars, I don’t even enjoy that crazy sweetness anymore. The oranges are sweet enough and the coconut sugar adds a bit of a caramel flavor. It’s delicious.

- Natural Sweetener In our home, we are big fans of coconut sugar since it’s unrefined and low on the glycemic index. Plus, it has some really great minerals in it like zinc, iron, calcium and potassium. It’s also not overly sweet. When pairing coconut sugar with cinnamon and oranges, the taste is out of this world! This is my favorite kind of coconut sugar and where I get it.
- Organic Cinnamon My favorite place to get organic spices is this place because I know they test for heavy metals and my spices will be organic and pure. Cinnamon can be contaminated with heavy metals so be careful what brand you buy!
Refreshing Cinnamon Oranges {No Refined Sugar}
- 2 Organic Navel Oranges, peeled a sliced
- 1 Tlbs. Organic Coconut Sugar
- ½ Tsp. Organic Cinnamon
- Mix cinnamon and sugar together.
- Place orange slices in one layer in a bowl.
- Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar mixture over the oranges.
- Place another layer of oranges and then sprinkle cinnamon mixture again.
- Let marinate in the refrigerator overnight.
- Enjoy these cool, refreshing snacks the next day!
