Organic, Gluten & Sugar-Free Bulk Taco Seasoning for the Busy Mom
If you have a weekly taco night, raise your hand! Since life is busy, easy meals are a requirement in my house. The caveat is that the food has to be from whole food and it has to be healthy. Just because a meal needs to be quick and simple doesn’t mean you have to compromise on how nutritious it is.
We have taco night once a week at our house. Everyone loves tacos and it’s fun to dress them up in our own unique style. There are several ways we serve tacos here. We like taco bowls, salads, nachos and tacos with corn-free shells.
For corn free shells I recommend:
Allergen Free, No Coconut Crunchy Kitchen Wraps
Make your own Grain-Free Crepes
Butter Lettuce Cups or Collard Greens
{For Nachos} Inka Plantain Chips
Nix the Natural Flavorings and Artificial Ingredients
The last thing I want to do as a busy mom who wants to serve my family whole food is buy store-bought taco mixes that are laden with pasteurized dairy, refined sugar and flavorings that are corrupted with MSG, GMO’s and chemicals. I also don’t want to make taco seasoning every single time we have tacos!
That’s why I have created an Organic Bulk Taco Seasoning that’s free of all the nasties and filled with wholesome goodness. It’s also free of contaminants and pesticides. The best part is that this recipe makes 36 servings! That means if you have tacos once a week you will only have to make this bulk seasoning every nine months. Woot! Woot!
Aren’t Organic Spices a Gimmick and a Waste of Money?
I used to think organic spices were just a gimmick to get you to spend more money. However, my eyes have been opened to the importance of buying organic spices.
The Food Ranger, Mike Adams states, “Almost all spices from India are consistently contaminated with lead.” He also notes, “China’s agricultural sector is widely contaminated with heavy metals, so almost anything you get from China is immediately suspect.” {Food Forensics, pp. 210} The heavy metals he is referring to are mercury, aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, lead and more! In his own ISO certified lab he has found 500 ppb (that’s parts per BILLION) heavy metals and contaminants in cooking spices. {Food Forensics, pp. 71}
If you think that you don’t buy your spices from China, you may want to re-evaluate. I purchased brand name and generic store brand spices for years. Once I became a label reader, there were many times I read the source of the spice on the back of the jar. Often the spices I bought in American grocery stores had been sourced from India or China. Read your labels and you’ll see just how prevalent it is. The country of origin is currently required to be on the food label. Be sure to check everything you buy.
Where You Can Purchase Organic Spices
If you have decided to bring organic spices into your home you can find them in a variety of places. Often times natural food stores will carry these spices. Even if it’s organic you still need to know that the company tests for contaminants and heavy metals as well as the country of origin though. Call the company and they should be more than willing to share their practices with you.
My favorite place to buy my spices is Mountain Rose Herbs because I know they only source organically, they test for heavy metals and sell premium products. Mountain Rose Herbs places high importance on soil quality, water quality, zero GMO’s, sustainability and fair trade. They also have great prices and excellent customer service. You should check them out!
By using their spices I am able to make 36 servings of my Bulk Organic Taco Seasoning for $1.33 per serving! It’s a steal and I have peace knowing me and my family are ingesting pure, clean spices that will help improve our health.

- If there is still a good amount of liquid left at the bottom, remove the cover and let simmer 5 minutes more until it has evaporated.
