This Superseed Blend is so versatile and adds a power-packed punch of nutrition to your meal.
What are the Benefits of Adding Superseeds into your diet?
Flax seeds, hemp seeds and chia seeds have been widely used for centuries in different cultures as a part of the diet to maintain good health.
Flax Seeds (Ground)
These seeds contain fiber, mucilage, and minerals manganese and magnesium as well as B vitamins like Thiamine. They contain ALA (an Omega 3) which is extremely anti-inflammatory and cooling to the body. Flax is a wonderful support for healthy cholesterol levels. It also helps to promote healthy digestion when consumed in moderation. *If you have had estrogen-based cancer, it’s a good idea to leave flax out of your diet.
According to Dr. Axe, “Flax has been used for 6,000 years… and is helpful for improving digestion, skin, cardiovascular health, cholesterol and hormone balance while fighting cancer and even sugar cravings.”
Chia Seeds
High in calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and has iron, zinc, vitamin B3 and C in smaller amounts. These seeds contain much more fiber than whole grains and contain great antioxidants and flavonols. They aid in intestinal health due to the mucilage content. Great to enjoy in moderation if seeds are tolerated.
According to Dr. Hyman, “Just one ounce of chia seeds packs a whopping 10 grams of fiber. Its insoluble fiber acts as a prebiotic that feeds friendly gut bacteria and ferments into short-chain fatty acids to support gut health.”
Hemp Seeds
Not to worry – hemp seeds do not contain any THC or psychoactive components. Those are only in the leaves and flowers of the plant. These seeds (or hearts as they are called) are rich in GLA – a building block for anti-inflammatory prostaglandins. They are high in fiber, support digestive health and gut motility and can improve skin, hair and nail health. Hemp seeds are a heart-healthy seed that has a perfect balance of Omega 6 and 3’s in them.
According to Dr. Oz, “This superfood is loaded with protein and essential amino acids. One ounce of hemp seeds contains six grams of protein – about as much as an egg.”
How to Use The Nutrient Dense Superseed Blend
I love making a batch of this superseed blend and storing it in the refrigerator so that I can scoop some out any time I want to use it. One batch usually lasts at least a couple of months with the amount that I use it.
Ideas for Using The Blend:
- Sprinkle on salads
- Mix 1 tsp. in your dairy-free yogurt
- If you can tolerate sprouted grains, add 2 tlbs. to warm soaked and sprouted oatmeal and mix in
- Use in these delicious Superfood 7 Layer Bars
- Add to any smoothie
- Top any soup
Storing the Superseed Blend
Each of these seeds (especially the flax and hemp) are quite fragile and can go rancid easily due to their high-quality fat content. For this reason, I like to store my blend in the refrigerator in a reusable jar.
Inexpensive Storage Hack
I like to save my empty ghee jars (these are the only ones I like) and make a batch of this blend. It stores compactly right in the door of my refrigerator!
