People ask me often about how to start a professional blog that actually makes money. When I tell them, their eyes glaze over a bit because it can be overwhelming. Figuring out where to start – fuggedaboutit!
The problem is, they have this amazing message to share but they never get past the first hurdle: getting their blogs set up and getting past the overwhelm!
Blogging True Story
When I started my blog, as a hobbyist, I didn’t really think about how important setting up a website on WordPress was. I didn’t understand how to brand my blog. and I certainly didn’t know I could even make money from my blog.
However, fast forward to the year 2014, I decided to take my hobby blog to a professional level and actually turn it into an income-producing business.
Due to my passion for healthy living and my own personal healing journey, I wanted to help women all over the world heal from their chronic illness and love life again. I had a message I wanted to get out there but I wasn’t getting the traction I needed to share it.
That’s when I started trying to figure out how to make my blog professional and gain an audience of women that I could help.
Let’s just say, I didn’t do well at figuring it out on my own
- Copywriting – I had no idea where to start
- Graphics – well I had a bit of an upper hand in that since I have a college degree in art/graphic design
- SEO – had no idea what that meant
- Social Media – I think my following was like 2 – my mom and dad! Ha!
- Structuring a Blog – didn’t even know there was such a thing.
- Branding – it’s just about colors right? Not even close.
- Monetizing – you mean I could actually make a passive income from my website? I had no idea.
- Creating my own products that people would buy – I could only dream of it.
For many true blogging beginners, these are insurmountable hurdles that feel impossible to figure out at times.
Does this describe where you are at or how you feel?
If so, you probably wish there was someone out there who could just show you, step-by-step, exactly what you need to do to set up a blog – from scratch.
