Ginger, Lemon, Blueberry Detox Smoothie {with optional therapeutic pure essential oils} GAPS Friendly & AIP Friendly.

Did you indulge in too many desserts over the holidays? Do you feel a little bogged down, heavy, bloated or foggy? We all probably indulged and do feel a bit like this and we all need a reset.  Personally, I have some plans for the first two months of the year to detox from the sugar and carb consumption so that I can get back on track with my energy and overall well being. Occassionally enjoying this smoothie is in the plan!

I’ve created a smoothie that does not have banana in it as a lot of you have to steer clear from bananas (especially ripe ones) due to the high sugar content. Although bananas are wonderful fruits with a boatload of potassium we need to eat them in moderation. Did you know that one serving of banana is ONLY 1/4 of a whole banana? This is important to remember when eating this popular fruit!

Anyway, what this smoothie does have in it is satiating fat from the avocado (and you don’t even taste it), coconut milk which is filled with medium-chain triglycerides (MCT’s) that also fuels your body as well as aids in detoxing toxins and the powerful immune boosting flavors of blueberries, ginger and lemon. I’ve also added Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides so that you maintain a balance of protein to help metabolize the small amount of fruit sugars that are in the smoothie. The collagen also helps improve, skin, hair and reduce joint inflammation! I LOVE grass feed and finished collagen. It is a mainstay in our home.

A note about essential oils: Please be sure to only use oils that are approved safe for internal use. Oils at grocery stores have filler oils in them that go rancid and are not tested for contaminants like molds, funguses, pesticides and purity. If you ingest these (which are in concentrated form) and they have any contaminant in them you are getting a concentrated amount of these impurities and toxins in your body. Our favorite oils are third party tested to be free and clean of all foreign matter, contaminants and are tested to be 100% pure. No filler oils! What it says on our bottles in what you get! Please, for your safety, only use Therapeutic, Pure Essential Oils.

This smoothie is a meal in and of itself and will give your body a tremendous amount of antioxidants as well the impressive anti-fungal, anti-viral, stomach soothing, anti-inflammatory properties that come from the rhizome ginger. Your kiddos will love the taste and they wont even know how good it is for them!

Ginger, Lemon Blueberry Detox Smoothie {with optional Therapeutic Essential Oils}
Recipe type: Beverage
Serves: 4
A refreshing and delicious smoothie that will aid your body in detoxing after all the holiday indulgences! With a sweet, tart taste you can't go wrong in resetting your body with this drink.
  • 1 C. Organic, Frozen Blueberries (I get mine in bulk at Costco)
  • 1 C. Coconut Milk, (with NO added fillers like gums Natural Value brand is excellent.)
  • 1 Whole Avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 1 Drop Therapeutic, Pure Ginger Essential Oil, or ½ inch peeled ginger root
  • 3 Drops Therapeutic, Pure Lemon Essential Oil, or ½ Organic Lemon, juiced
  • 1 Tlbs. Real, Pure, Organic Maple Syrup (optional)
  • 2 Scoops Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
  • 1 C. Ice
  • 1 C. Water
  1. Place all ingredients in a high power blender until all is combined and smooth. I use a Vitamix and it works perfectly.
  2. This will make 4 small servings or 2 large servings.
