Decadent, Grain Free, Orange, Ginger Honey Cake
Oranges make me happy! Seeing their bright color and tasting that wholesome, sweet flesh boosts my mood. Do you like oranges?
It’s fun to come up with new ways to use oranges rather than eating them as is or juicing them for juice. I grew up enjoying tasty orange cookies that my mom used to make. They were so delicious and melt in your mouth wonderful! I can taste them now just thinking about them. In coming up with this Decadent, Grain Free, Orange, Ginger, Honey Cake I was actually after the flavor I remember from those orange cookies I was blessed with as a child.
The Flavors in This Decadent Cake
As I have changed my diet and lifestyle I find that I am not drawn to the overly sweet desserts I loved as a child. Don’t get me wrong, I still love something sweet tasting, however, the level of sweetness I enjoy now is more subtle and not mouth puckering. My Grain Free Orange Ginger Honey Cake is delicately sweet with a slight hint of spicy ginger and earthy honey notes. Using real ginger root along with doTERRA Ginger Essential Oil, I find is a great way to amp up the ginger zing.
Cooking With Essential Oils
Have you ever tried cooking with doTERRA Essential Oils? I highly recommend it. Consider these oils big flavor boosters. I cook with them all the time! I will mention that I only stand by cooking with doTERRA oils because I know they are 100% pure and free from pesticides, herbicides and contaminants. Every liter is third-party tested to be perfectly pure. That means they are safe for ingestion. I don’t ingest any other brand of essential oil. In this recipe, I use both doTERRA Wild Orange and doTERRA Ginger Essential Oil to boost the flavor. Please don’t leave these oils out! Your cake will not be the same. Remember, only ingest doTERRA Essential Oils too!
Notes On Ingredients and Tools
I am always asked, “Where do you buy your…. insert ingredient? Since you may be curious, I really like to share the places I source my whole, organic ingredients.
As mentioned above I purchase my doTERRA Essential Oils for cooking through my own wholesale account. I’d love to help you set yours up and teach you the best practices for cooking with essential oils. I mentor people all over the U.S.A and would love to help you!
Palm Shortening I purchase here. It is tested to be Glyphosate free and I love it!
I get my Coconut Cream Concentrate here. It’s also known as Coconut Manna or Coconut Butter. I like to wait when these go on sale at buy one get another for half off.
Because I use Coconut Milk so much, I purchase it by the case because I find it’s a lot less expensive to do so. I only buy coconut milk which doesn’t have gums in it since they can irritate intestines. This is my favorite coconut milk. You can get a really good brand that is less expensive here and it doesn’t have the fillers either.
Raw Local Honey is such a delicacy and so full of living enzymes that are amazing for our body. We have a local apiary we get our honey from. I recommend going to this website to see if you can find a local beekeeper near you. Be sure to ask about their practices and if their honey is raw and organic. When I can’t get to the apiary, I get my raw honey here.
For Organic Eggs, I’d love to say we have our own chickens but sadly, we don’t – yet! I purchase these either at local farms near me, Costco or my local grocery store and sometimes I like to order the soy-free eggs from here.
Coconut Flour is another staple in our house. This flour is low starch and more fiber with a low glycemic index. Furthermore, it sits the best with me, although sometimes I do use starches when baking with it. I love this brand and get it here or at Costco when they happen to be carrying it.
Organic Ginger Root, Organic Vanilla, Organic Oranges and Sea Salt I get at my local natural food stores.
For grating ginger root, one of my favorite kitchen tools is a microplane. Consequently, it makes it so simple to take a nub of ginger or fresh turmeric root and turn into gratings.
Since my cake decorating days I have cake spatulas that I still use for a myriad of recipes in my kitchen. I find that these work best for frosting this cake.
