Isn’t Fall the Best Season?
Fall foods are my most favorite out of all the seasons. It’s the season filled with the ultimate comfort food! I do love food of every season but nothing compares the aromas and the enjoyment of fall food in my opinion.
A Healthier Way to do Pumpkin Spice
In my unhealthy days, I used to drink a well-known coffee company’s Pumpkin Spice Lattes about once or twice a week. Unfortunately, they are filled with refined sugars, chemicals and GMO’s so I have kicked them out of my diet. Not to mention, they are expensive!
Instead, I have found my own way of making a cup of fall comfort at home with unrefined, clean and healthy ingredients from whole food. It is so satisfying!
I like to make the hot version of a PSL but I also came up with a cold version which is dairy free that can be served as a snack, dessert or even breakfast! It’s THAT healthy.
An Immune Boosting Power-Packed Pumpkin Punch
One of the best parts of this shake is the addition of doTERRA’s OnGuard Essential Oil Blend which helps support our immune systems. It adds flavor and boosts your immune system at the same time!
I love giving this shake to my kids for an occasional treat because I know the ingredients are nutrient filled and they are getting essential oils to help to boost their immunity -especially during the colder months. It is your choice to include this yummy essential oil but I highly recommend it!
This Pumpkin Spice Shake Can be Made AIP Friendly.
In the recipe, I have included substitutions to make the shake AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) friendly.
Nutmeg is a spice that is not on the AIP spice list but is in pumpkin pie spice. For those of your following the AIP protocol, you should not use pre-blended pumpkin pie spice. It is really easy to make your own.
The Best Ingredients to Use for Your Pumpkin Shake
- Collagen Protein is my go-to when it comes to getting enough protein. I always add it to my drinks, whether it is hot tea, smoothies or shakes. Here is the kind I love. It thickens the shake and does not turn it gelatinous and is wonderful for vibrant skin and healthy hair and nails.
- Organic, Whole Pumpkin is a crucial ingredient in this shake. The most inexpensive place I have found it is here.
- Organic, Filler Free Coconut Milk is a staple in our house and so I stock up on it every month. One place I love to buy it because it’s is so inexpensive is here.
- Organic Spices are not a gimmick. It’s actually really important to purchase your spices organic so you can be sure they don’t contain heavy metals or high levels of herbicides and pesticides. One place I get my organic spices at is here.
- Organic Vanilla Extract can be really expensive these days. I have found it for a great price here.
- Grade 1 On Guard Essential Oil is a flavorful and therapeutic addition to this shake and will help anyone feeling under the weather fight off the ailment.
